Can You Take L-Glutamine and Pyroglutamic Acid Together?

May affect absorption

The short answer

Pyroglutamic acid (5-oxoproline) is a cyclized derivative of glutamic acid/glutamine. Both compete for glutamate/glutamine transporters and metabolic pathways. Taking them together may reduce the absorption of each.

How to arrange timing

Separate Pyroglutamic Acid and L-Glutamine by at least 1 hour for optimal absorption.

Important context

Whether supplements suit you together also depends on dose, product formulation, health conditions, and medication use. Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a chronic condition.
