Can You Take Iron and Phytase Together?

May affect absorption

The short answer

Phytase breaks down phytic acid (phytate), which is a natural inhibitor of mineral absorption. While phytase can actually enhance iron absorption by removing phytate, the enzymatic process may temporarily alter the digestive environment and affect iron uptake timing.

How to arrange timing

Phytase may actually help iron absorption by breaking down phytate. If taking both, use phytase 30 minutes before iron for optimal benefit.

Important context

Whether supplements suit you together also depends on dose, product formulation, health conditions, and medication use. Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a chronic condition.
