Can You Take Iron and Naringenin Together?

May affect absorption

The short answer

Naringenin is a flavanone found in citrus fruits that chelates iron through its hydroxyl groups, reducing non-heme iron absorption. Additionally, naringenin inhibits CYP3A4, which may affect the metabolism of iron-containing compounds.

How to arrange timing

Separate Naringenin and iron supplements by at least 2 hours.

Important context

Whether supplements suit you together also depends on dose, product formulation, health conditions, and medication use. Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a chronic condition.
