Can You Take Chlorogenic Acid and Iron Together?

May affect absorption

The short answer

Chlorogenic Acid is one of the most potent polyphenolic inhibitors of iron absorption. A single cup of coffee (containing ~200 mg chlorogenic acid) can reduce iron absorption by 60-90%.

How to arrange timing

Separate Chlorogenic Acid and iron supplements by at least 2 hours. This is one of the most significant polyphenol-iron interactions.

Important context

Whether supplements suit you together also depends on dose, product formulation, health conditions, and medication use. Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a chronic condition.
