Can You Take Beta-Carotene and Canthaxanthin Together?

May affect absorption

The short answer

Canthaxanthin and Beta-Carotene are both carotenoids that compete for the same intestinal absorption transporters and incorporation into chylomicrons. High-dose canthaxanthin has been shown to reduce beta-carotene absorption.

How to arrange timing

Separate Canthaxanthin and Beta-Carotene supplements by at least 2 hours to avoid carotenoid absorption competition.

Important context

Whether supplements suit you together also depends on dose, product formulation, health conditions, and medication use. Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a chronic condition.
