Can You Take L-DOPA (Levodopa) and Vitamin B6 Together?

Dose or timing may matter

The short answer

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) enhances peripheral decarboxylation of L-DOPA to dopamine via aromatic amino acid decarboxylase, reducing the amount of L-DOPA that crosses the blood-brain barrier and diminishing its neurological effects.

How to arrange timing

If using L-DOPA (or mucuna) for neurological support, avoid high-dose vitamin B6 unless combined with a decarboxylase inhibitor.

Important context

Whether supplements suit you together also depends on dose, product formulation, health conditions, and medication use. Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a chronic condition.
