Can You Take Epicatechin and Iron Together?

May affect absorption

The short answer

Epicatechin is a flavan-3-ol that strongly chelates non-heme iron through its vicinal dihydroxyl groups. It is one of the primary polyphenols responsible for iron absorption inhibition by tea and cocoa.

How to arrange timing

Separate Epicatechin and iron supplements by at least 2 hours.

Important context

Whether supplements suit you together also depends on dose, product formulation, health conditions, and medication use. Ask a doctor or pharmacist first if you take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a chronic condition.
